Used Lift Table and Pallet Positioner FAQs

How Do Lift Tables and Pallet Positioners Work?

With most lift tables and pallet positioners, either a hydraulic or pneumatic lift system provides the strength necessary to move heavy stock. These systems utilize some basic laws of physics to move either air or oil through cylinders, pushing up the platform as a result. Most units will still require access to a power supply to run the mechanical components needed for operation.

Will You Need to Replace Hydraulic Oil or Air?

Keeping on top of hydraulic oil levels is part of regular maintenance for hydraulic systems. While most products won’t need constant oil replacement, if you experience leaks or low reservoir levels, you’ll need to replace hydraulic oil. For pneumatic systems, you'll have a constant supply of air from an air compressor to operate the lift table or pallet positioner.

What Makes a Pallet Positioner Different from a Lift Table?

While both devices tackle similar tasks, pallet positioners are better for use with pallets. This is due to the way the platform rotates to help workers pick products without needing to move positions. Some lift tables also provide this feature, but it's fairly standard with pallet positioners. Additionally, pallet positioners work well with standard pallet sizes, while lift tables offer a smaller rectangular platform. This works better for loose stock and non-palletized products.

Can You Use Brake Oil in Hydraulic Systems?

If you’re looking to replace your system's oil, brake oil can seem like a suitable substitute. But most manufacturers will recommend that you only use hydraulic oil. This will ensure your lift table or pallet positioner will work without failure. Repairs like replacing a hydraulic cylinder are far more expensive than sourcing the appropriate hydraulic oil for your system.
