Like other types of conveyors, flex conveyors can operate on gravity or with electric power, but there’s a key difference between these and standard conveyors: You can bend these bad boys to fit varying needs. That makes them perfect for use at loading and shipping docks, as well as at the end of an existing conveyor system to connect to truck trailers.

Yes! Here at East Coast Storage Equipment, we often carry both kinds of conveyors. First, you’ll need to understand the difference between gravity and power conveyors. When considering which is right for your facility, ask yourself the following:
If you’re looking to save space, you can’t beat flex conveyors. They break down to a relatively small form factor when not in use, and you can easily store them out of the way when needed — meaning, for example, you can store them on the back of a semi-truck for easy loading and unloading.
Since most flex conveyor systems come on caster wheels, moving them from one end of the warehouse to the other is an easy task that requires minimal help. This makes them the perfect choice for environments where you require a conveyor in multiple temporary locations.
While you’ll need to decide between powered and gravity-powered flex conveyor systems, you’ll also need to consider skatewheel-based systems against roller-based conveyors. Often, the deciding factor will be what types of materials you need to move.
Roller-based systems work well with light to heavy loads but tend to be slightly more expensive than skatewheel systems. Alternatively, skate wheel systems work with a wide range of products and reduce the amount of force you’ll need to move items. But they may not be the right choice for heavier loads and products like drums and pails.
With gravity-powered conveyors, the weight of the load and decline angle define speed. For powered conveyors, it depends on the specific piece of equipment and manufacturer specifications. Most will offer variable speed choices defined in feet per minute
If you’re looking for flexible conveyors, both powered and gravity, you have a few options:
