Used Forklifts FAQs

How Often Do You Need Forklift or Other Lift Equipment Maintenance?

This will depend on the type of lift equipment you have. Generally speaking, you’ll want to make sure maintenance happens at regular intervals throughout the year. This may include checking the wear on wheels, ensuring battery levels are adequate and checking all the safety features. Other maintenance will require the trained hand of a qualified lift equipment mechanic.

What Lift Equipment Will I Need?

You’ll want to take a thorough look at your daily operations, storage needs and product requirements to understand what types of equipment you’ll need. For palletized products, a forklift is necessary for efficient unloading and loading and to get pallets onto pallet racks. Pallet jacks can be useful when moving pallets on the ground and through tight spaces. Other equipment, such as narrow-aisle trucks, stackers and order pickers, can also play a role in managing your warehouse.

Do I Need Additional Forklift Attachments?

Standard forks can easily handle standard pallets without a hiccup. For special loads, you can still use your forklift, but you’ll need to replace the forks with additional attachments. Some specialty attachments include the following:

  • Side shifters
  • Paper roll clamps
  • Rotators
  • Push/pull attachments
  • Carpet poles

What About Capacity?

When purchasing a forklift, the main decision you’ll need to make is about your capacity requirements. A couple of considerations are necessary to get a good understanding of your capacity needs. You’ll first need to understand how attachments and load centers impact capacity. For example, a forklift with a 10,000-pound capacity and a 5,000-pound attachment means your machine can only lift 5,000 pounds.
