About Carton Flow Racking
Carton flow racks are gravity-powered, leveraging inclined shelves with rollers to move items in a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) process with no motors, electricity or manual operations needed. Perfect for warehouses with numerous SKUs, carton flow racking can improve visibility and order accuracy and is the perfect option for split case or piece picking.
Ideal for operations with continuous inventory rotation, carton flow racking is a dynamic storage system that separates the loading aisle from the retrieval aisle to allow pickers to operate more efficiently. By organizing stock with a carton flow system, warehouses and distribution centers can dramatically improve overall efficiency by organizing products and rotating stock manually.
In a traditional static racking system, such as selective pallet racking, stocking and picking operations happen at the same location. This can lead to inefficiencies and time wasted on travel. With a carton flow, gravity flow or Span-Track system, picking and stocking are separated. Workers load products into the loading aisle and, using gravity, they flow toward the retrieval aisle.
Depending on inventory needs, roller or skate wheel rails might have different spacing. For example, for varying carton widths, a full-bed skate wheel configuration is best. For cartons with consistent widths, a full-width steel roller configuration might be the better option. You’ll also see other configurations, like flow rails or simple angled shelves.
